Clery Act Policy & Procedure Audit

A common trend in Department of Education Program Reviews is “Lack of Administrative Capability” — in other words, campuses are unable to demonstrate their ability to adequately conduct an effective and comprehensive Clery Act compliance program. Clery Center’s Clery Act Policy and Procedure Audit provides institutions with direct feedback on current policies and practices, identifying potential gaps as well as opportunities to enhance Clery Act compliance efforts.

A policy and procedure audit consists of four elements: a preliminary assessment, an in-person or virtual site visit (typically 1-3 days), a draft written report, and a final written report. Depending on the needs of the campus, an institution may also request a campus-based presentation or training (for example, campus security authority training, Clery Act training, or a presentation of findings to campus administration.)

Technical Assistance

Clery Center provides subject matter expertise on the Clery Act and uses our national lens working with institutions to help colleges and universities identify strategies to successfully implement the law’s requirements.

Clery Center Members receive timely, unlimited technical assistance and support from Clery Center experts, in addition to discounted consulting and personalized training.

Clery Center is also a technical assistance provider for the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) Campus Program and supports grantees in prevention and response to dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Read more about our work with OVW below.

Office on Violence Against Women Campus Grant Program

Since 2009 Clery Center has proudly served as the Federal Technical Assistance provider for Clery Act compliance for the U.S. Department of Justice, through the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) Campus Grant Program, supporting colleges and universities across the U.S. and its territories.

The mission of the Campus Program is to develop effective culturally relevant campus-based programming that builds strong campus and community partnerships to strengthen services for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.

As an OVW Campus Program TA Provider, we connect grantees with resources and strategies to help guide them through understanding and implementing the provisions of the Clery Act. This technical assistance regularly includes:

  • Email and phone consultation on the intersection of the Clery Act with grant requirements;
  • Product reviews such as training slides, written resources for victims of crime, and other materials;
  • Virtual and in-person training; and
  • Virtual and in-person site visits to assess the institution’s Clery Act compliance practices in relation to dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Office on Violence Against Women Campus Grant Program Logistics

Clery Center proudly served as the logistics team to meet the growth and demands of the OVW Campus Grant program from 2016 – 2022. 

Clery Center planned and operated the detailed coordination of the logistic responsibilities for all in-person and virtual events for the Campus Grant Program. This allowed Technical Assistance Providers to work with grantees providing information, training, and resources to enhance their capacity to reduce campus sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking and effectively implement grant goals, objectives, and requirements.

Logistics supported delivery of trainings and education for Campus Program grantees through the coordination of national in-person and virtual Training and Technical Assistance Institutes (TTI’s), New Grantee Orientation (NGO), disseminating program-specific information, and hosting webinars.

 Clery Center Campus Grant Logistics achievements:

  • Planned and successfully hosted the largest in-person Training and Technical Assistance Institute in the Campus Grant’s 20-year history with over 700 participants.
  • Adapted all in-person trainings and webinars to virtual platforms.
  • Supported Campus Program Technical Assistance Providers through the transition from in-person to virtual trainings.
  • Incorporated equal language access practices into the Campus Grant Program under the direction of OVW to ensure webinars, trainings, materials, and Closed Captions are available in both English and Spanish. 
  • Hosted monthly webinars with project partners
